Southern Hardwood Research Group annual meeting - Feb. 18

The 63rd Southern Hardwood Forest Research Group annual meeting will be held Thursday, Feb. 18 at the Capps Entrepreneurial Center, Delta Branch Experiment Station in Stoneville, Miss.

The program starts at 8 a.m. and concludes by 2:30 p.m. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. with coffee and donuts available. A $25 registration fee covers meeting handouts, refreshments, a catered lunch, and Continuing Forestry Education Credits. Make checks out to “Delta Research Foundation.”

This year’s program theme will focus on the Management of Young Bottomland Hardwood Plantations. Presentations addressing this subject will be made by Dan Prevost, a forester with Delta Wildlife in Stoneville, Miss., and Steve Meadows, a principal silviculturist with the USDA Forest Service, Southern Hardwoods Laboratory in Stoneville. In addition, Susie Adams, Wendell Haag, Tracy Hawkins, and Dan Wilson with the Center for Bottomland Hardwoods Research will report on their current research projects.

Following a lunch catered on-site, Greg Ruark, assistant director of the Southern Research Station, will share his perspective on the outlook for bottomland hardwoods and related stream research conducted by the Center. The meeting will conclude with a summary of the latest research accomplishments at the Center presented by Ted Leininger, project leader.

Approval is being sought for Continuing Forestry Education credits (usually 4.0 to 4.5 contact hours in Category 1-CF). Copies of the CFE contact hour notice will be available at the registration desk, as will a signup sheet for those wanting to receive credit for this meeting.
