The 28thSouth Texas Farm and Ranch Show, scheduled Oct. 24 and 25 at the Victoria Community Center, will offer a variety of topics including border security, weed resistance management, new technology and a cattlemen’s college.

“We try to bring farmers and technology together at this show,” says Victoria County AgriLife Extension agent Peter McGuill. In addition to educational offerings on new technology, producers also have opportunities to visit exhibits with the latest in product, technology and services during show hours, he said.

“This year, one of our featured speakers will be Victoria County Sheriff Michael O’Connor. He’s also a rancher and will discuss border security from an enforcement and an educational angle. Border security will be a key issue at this conference.”

McGuill said the cattle college also brings in a lot of expertise. Topics include grazing management, new pasture herbicides and supplementing nitrogen with legumes. Experts also will discuss feedgrain, livestock and cotton markets.

“We’ll also discuss farm policy, enterprise management and will get an update on weed resistance issues,” McGuill said.

Participants may earn as many as 10 continuing education units. Show attendance is free of charge but participants in the educational seminars will pay a $10 fee.

Programs start daily at 7:30 a.m. and run through 5:00 p.m.
