Seeking tools for sustainability

The European Union has long been an staunch opponent of biotech crops, refusing until fairly recently to allow the production of any genetically modified grains or oilseeds. But Europe’s farmers are beginning to push against the ban, demanding that European Union officials allow them to begin using those sustainability tools. One of the leaders in those efforts is Gabriela Cruz, a farmer from Portugal, who received the Kleckner Trade and Technology Advancement Award at the World Food Prize International Symposium in Des Moines, Iowa. She spoke with Farm Press editor Forrest Laws in this interview in Des Moines.
