The Department of Agronomy and Horticulture at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln will present a two-day workshop on Pesticide Resistance Management Dec. 4-5 at the Nebraska East Union on UNL's East Campus.

The workshop, consisting of lecture, discussion and hands-on activities and problem-solving, is designed to provide producers, agronomists and other agribusiness professionals with a basic understanding of why crop insect pests, pathogens and weeds develop resistance to pesticides and other management techniques.

Topics include the evolutionary biological, genetic and pest biological principles underpinning pest resistance and its management. The role of transgenic crops also is examined.

The workshop is available for UNL academic credit, noncredit professional development and continuing education units. Sessions will start at approximately 9 a.m. and conclude around 4 p.m. each day. For noncredit participants, the registration fee is $250 if received on or before Nov. 27; $300 thereafter. The fee includes all workshop-related materials, parking permit, lunch and refreshments both days.

For individuals unable to attend the workshop, the content also will be available online.
