Former North Carolina Lieutenant Governor Robert B. Jordan, III, of Montgomery County, has been awarded North Carolina Farm Bureau’s (NCFB) 2010 Distinguished Service to Agriculture Award. The award recognizes Jordan’s remarkable career of service to North Carolina and American agriculture.

The award was presented during NCFB’s 75th Annual Meeting, at the Joseph S. Koury Convention Center, Sheraton Greensboro Hotel at Four Seasons.

"What is most impressive about Bob Jordan is that with every step of his distinguished career, he has never tired of fighting for agriculture or rural North Carolina," said Larry Wooten, president of NCFB.

Jordan began his career in his family’s lumber business and was elected to the North Carolina Senate in 1977. In 1985, he was elected to serve as North Carolina Lieutenant Governor. Jordan was instrumental in the creation of the North Carolina Rural Economic Development Center, among many other rural and agricultural advocacy efforts.
The Distinguished Service Award is NCFB’s highest honor. It is presented each year at the organization’s annual meeting.
