Nitrous oxide is one of the components of greenhouse gases. But determining the impact of fertilizer nitrogen on the phenomenon continues to be challenging. Scientists at the USDA ARS’ National Laboratory for Agriculture and the Environment are in the third year of a study to determine the effect of nitrogen stabilizers on crop yields and nitrogen losses in the atmosphere. Tim Parkim, a research scientist with the laboratory at Iowa State University, discussed the research at this year’s Farm Progress Show.
