New organic nematicide from Monterey AgResources

Nema-Q, an organic nematicide from Monterey AgResources, is now registered by the California Department of Pesticide Regulation.

Nema-Q is the only nematicide based on Quillaja, an extract from a tree native to Chile where it has been used successfully for several years. Extensive field trials conducted by the University of California and private researchers have shown that using the organic nematicide on fruit and vegetable crops results in increased yields, size, brix, color, and root mass.

“This is a great product which is totally organic,” said John Salmonson, president and CEO of Monterey AgResources. “Its main ingredient comes from Quillaja saponaria trees, which are native to Chile. The extract is derived from prunings of existing native Quillaja trees so forests aren't harmed in the process.”

Nema-Q is listed by the Organic Materials Review Institute (OMRI) for use in organic production. It acts directly on the plant parasite nematodes that cause damage by feeding on roots, and is highly effective in a wide range of agricultural applications, including vegetables, tree fruit, nuts, vine crops, ornamentals, and turf. Nema-Q can be applied through the irrigation system by drip, micro-sprinkler, or band application. For additional information visit
