This is an English language article about a new online continuing education course now available at penton.ag.com. See here for a Spanish language article on the same subject.  The CE course is a Spanish version of an existing course. It is provided as a service to agriculture’s Spanish speakers.

Farm Press has launched its first Spanish language continuing education course.

It is entitled Status of Herbicide Resistance in Weeds, available at pentonag.com.

The course was developed by the Weed Science Society of America (WSSA) which has partnered with Farm Press to host theaccredited five-module weed resistance management educational course.

The course is accredited for up to 2 hours/units of continuing education credit in California, Arizona, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Maine, Maryland, New Jersey, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Texas, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia, Wyoming, and for Certified Crop Advisors nationally. More states are being added regularly to the accreditation list.

There are more than 10,000 licensed professionals and farmers registered on the pentonag.com CEU portal. To date, more than 50,000 courses have been completed for credit hours/units.

“We have long wanted to provide a Spanish language CE course. Many sponsors and users have indicated a need for such a course,” said Harry Cline, CEU program director.

“The partnership between WSSA and Penton is significant for Penton’s online CEU program because WSSA is a widely recognized worldwide professional organization of weed scientists,” says Greg Frey, vice president for the Penton agricultural publishing group. “We humbly value the affiliation with such a well-respected, professional society.”

“The WSSA Herbicide Resistance CEU Coursehas been a valuable tool in educating crop and pest managers on herbicide resistance management principles and practices. A Spanish version will further expand the value of the course by reaching a broader audience,” says WSSA President James Kells.

The course is also accessible directly via http://www.pentonag.com/wssa.spanishwrm.

Penton’s nine-year record of successfully obtaining credit hour/units for online CEU courses from more than 20 state departments of agriculture for licensed agricultural professionals is what precipitated the two-year affiliation contract between WSSA and Penton to add the WSSA courses to the pentonag.com CEU portal. Penton also successfully acquires credit for its courses for the American Society of Agronomy’s 15,000 Certified Crop Advisers nationally and in Canada.

The weed resistance management course consists of five modules: Current Status of Herbicide Resistance in Weeds; How Herbicides Work; What is Herbicide Resistance?; Scouting After a Herbicide Application and Confirming Herbicide Resistance; and Principles of Managing Herbicide Resistance.

There are at least 40 comprehensive review questions at the conclusion of the course. A score of 70 is required to earn credit. Farm Press reports hour completions to all accrediting agencies.

Both the English and Spanish versions of the course carry the same class accreditation number, therefore, you can only take one of the courses for credit.
