Mississippi producers need to rebalance check books

Mississippi is one of those Rain Belt states where growers are only supposed to need supplemental irrigation. But, more often than not in recent years, Mississippi producers have been taking more water out of the Delta’s alluvial aquifer than Mother Nature has been putting back in. That is leading to some long-term problems for growers who irrigate. Mississippi State’s Darrin Dodds discussed the problems at the Irrigation Technology Seminar at the Mid-South Farm and Gin Show in Memphis, Tenn.
