Land auctions wind down

Only a few sales were held in May

SPRING SALES: Farmland sales slowed in May. Land that sold in the few auctions held in May brought $3,000 to $4,000 per acre.

Land auctions slowed to a trickle in May. The following is a roundup of a few of the last land auctions of the season. Most prices were in the $3,000- to $4,000-per-acre price range.

Big tract in Hand County, SD, sells
A total of 960 acres in Hand County, S.D., sold at a public auction May 4 in three tracts for $2,950, $4,050 and $4,300 per acre. The top-selling tract consisted of 320 acres, of which 295 acres were tillable. The weighted average productivity index ranged from 81 to 87. The land that sold for $4,050 per acre was a quarter section with 153 acres tillable. The weighted average productivity index was 85. The third tract consisted of 320 acres with a productivity rating ranging from 85 to 70. “These farms contain some of the very best soils in Hand County,” the sale bill said. — Auction managed and conducted by Bob Hansen Land Auctions, Salem, S.D. Cropland, pasture in Clark County, SD
Approximately 160 acres in Clark County, S.D., sold for $3,317 per acre. About 96 acres was tillable. About 77 acres were being farmed. The rest of the land was in pasture. The pasture had a dugout, and there was a rural water line along one side of the property. Moody County, SD, land sells for $4K
Approximately 74 acres in Moody County, S.D., sold for $4,125 per acre in May. It included about 20 acres of cropland and 54 acres of native and tame grass pasture. The pasture had a four-barbed wire fence, a well and a dugout. According to the Moody County assessor, the parcel had a soil rating of 0.474. 452 acres in ND sells for $1,200/a
About 452 acres of farmland, hay land and pasture located in Nelson and Griggs counties, N.D., sold for $1,216 per acre. It consisted of about 308 acres of cropland with the remainder in hay land and pasture.
