K-State Research and Extension is offering two workshops targeting small acreage landowners who would like to learn more about managing their pastures. One workshop is scheduled at the Leavenworth County Fairgrounds, Aug. 28, from 6:00 - 9:30 p.m., in Tonganoxie, Kan. The same workshop will be repeated at the Johnson County Fairgrounds, Aug. 29 from 9 a.m. - 12:30 p.m., in Gardner, Kan. The fee for either workshop is $5.

The workshops are a multi-agency/multi-county effort. Anyone in Miami, Johnson, Douglas, Leavenworth and surrounding counties is welcome to attend. Advance registration is required. Refreshments will be provided. Registration is required by Aug. 21.

Pasture management walking tour planned

Gary Kilgore, retired forage specialist from Kansas State University Research and Extension, will conduct a pasture walk Aug. 29 at 1 p.m. in Gardner, Kan. Interested participants should meet at the Johnson County Fairgrounds for a 45-minute introduction to pasture management. Participants will then caravan to two separate pastures for a walking tour.

Kilgore will answer questions regarding all aspects of pasture management. Weed identification and control, grazing management, planting and overseeding, fertilizer application and other topics of interest will be addressed.
