Hertz Farm Management names Randy Hertz CEO

The Iowa-based company also announces retirement of long-time president Loyd Brown.

DEEP IOWA ROOTS: Founded in 1946, Hertz Farm Management specializes in professional farm management, farmland sales, auctions, acquisitions and farmland appraisals. Headquartered at Nevada, Iowa, the company has 15 offices throughout the Midwest. It manages over 2,400 farms consisting of more than 550,000 acres.

Randy Hertz has been named chief executive officer (CEO) of Hertz Farm Management, Inc., effective December 1, 2016. Randy joined Hertz in 1978 to work alongside his father, Carl Hertz, who started the company in 1946. The company is headquartered at Nevada, Iowa. Randy has nearly 40 years of experience as an agricultural land professional in farmland brokerage, farm management and appraisal.

In addition to naming Randy as CEO, Hertz Farm Management is restructuring its senior management team with the formation of a strategic operations leadership team or SOLT. Led by the CEO, this group will position Hertz for succession and growth and includes the presidents of farm management, real estate, and appraisal, as well as the chief financial officer, executive vice president of operations and vice president of corporate marketing. For many years, Randy has written the Land Values column each month in Wallaces Farmer magazine.

Hertz also has a new president, replacing retiring Loyd Brown
The company appointed Jeff Troendle as its new president on October 1. Troendle succeeds Loyd Brown, who served as president for the past 16 years.

Troendle has been with Hertz Farm Management for 30 years. From 1986 to 1990, he worked out of the Mt. Vernon, Iowa office and moved to Waterloo in 1990 to become the office manager. Over the years he has appraised, managed, sold, and acquired rural properties. He has a B.S. in Agriculture Business from Iowa State University and is recognized by the American Society of Farm Managers and Rural Appraisers as an Accredited Farm Manager (AFM). He belongs to several organizations, including: American Society of Farm Managers and Rural Appraisers (ASFMRA), Realtors Land Institute (RLI), Farm Managers Advisory Board, and the Waterloo and Cedar Falls Chambers of Commerce.

Loyd Brown worked for Hertz Farm Management for 47 years
“I’m looking forward to serving as president of Hertz Farm Management. I grew up working on a grain and livestock farm and have spent my entire adult career dedicated to the agriculture industry. As president, I will continue to advocate for growing our business based on the four core values of our founder, Carl Hertz: integrity, customer focus, growth and continued excellence,” Troendle said.

Loyd Brown, who has been with Hertz for 47 years, served on the board of directors since 1975 and the last 16 years as president. He plans to retire in 2017. During his tenure, he served as a consultant with top agricultural investment firms across the country, providing updates and insights into the agriculture markets. He has also been featured in the Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg, Reuters and other national publications.

Randy Hertz has earned a number of professional accreditations
Randy is a member of the Iowa and American Society of Farm Managers and Rural Appraisers and the Iowa and National Realtors Land Institute, serving as national president in 2006. He is also a member of the RLI Farm and Ranch Multiple Listing Service, Central Iowa Board of Realtors, and Financial Planners Association. He was recognized with the awards of Iowa Farm and Land Broker of the Year in 1991 and Land Realtor of America in 2010. He is a senior instructor for the RLI, teaching courses in Land Brokerage, AgLand Brokerage, and Land Investment Analysis.

His education includes a Bachelor of Science degree in animal science from the College of Agriculture at Iowa State University and a Master of Business Administration from Harvard University. He holds several accreditations including: Accredited Farm Manager, American Society of Farm Managers and Rural Appraisers; Accredited Land Consultant, Realtors Land Institute; and Certified Financial Planner.

Randy has served as president for several community organizations, including the Nevada Rotary Club, Nevada Economic Development Council and United Way of Story County. He serves on the Board of Governors of the ISU Foundation and has served on the ISU Alumni Board, along with numerous committees of the Nevada United Methodist Church. Randy and his wife Liz have three daughters.
