Free farm bill, row crop workshop

The Texas AgriLife Extension Service and Farm Service Agency will co-sponsor the “Farm Bill and Row Crop Workshop” from 5:30-9:15 p.m. on May 28 in San Antonio.

The workshop is free and will be held at the Martinez Social Club, 7791 Farm-to-Market 1346, east of downtown and between Interstate 10 and U.S. Highway 87.

“This workshop is for people involved in agriculture who would benefit from knowing the ins and outs of the new farm bill, how to protect and improve their corn, milo and cotton crops, and the economic outlook and impact on those crops,” said Bryan Davis, AgriLife Extension agent for natural resources, Bexar County.

Program topics will include: a 2008 Farm Bill retrospective, the Average Crop Revenue Election program and producer decision aids, boll weevil eradication update, non-commercial cotton/Crop Destruction Program assessment, row-crop economic outlook and implications to farm bill decisions, and row-crop integrated pest management.

Attendees will receive 2.5 continuing education units – one general, one integrated pest management and 0.5 laws and regulations.

In addition to AgriLife Extension and Farm Service Agency personnel, workshop speakers will include representatives from the Texas Department of Agriculture and the Boll Weevil Eradication Program.

Due to limited seating, attendees are encouraged to RSVP to Annette Pawelek at the AgriLife Extension office for Bexar County, 210-467-6575, or to apawelek@ag.tamu.edu.

For more information, contact Davis or Pawelek at 210-467-6575.
