Farmers in north Mississippi will come face to face with state educators and researchers to discuss their needs at the annual Producer Advisory Council meeting Feb. 20 in Verona, Miss.

The meeting will bring together farmers and representatives of Mississippi State University’s Extension Service and the Mississippi Agricultural and Forestry Experiment Station.

More research on fungicides for peanut, corn, and wheat diseases, development of improved grain varieties, and more tools to combat weed resistance were items on the wish lists of north Mississippi producers at the 2013 meeting of the council (Advisory Council provides insight into needs of Mississippi producers).

Producers in northeast Mississippi and in Kemper, Panola, Montgomery, Grenada and Tate counties will attend the meeting.

After the general session, 16 groups will meet to identify priorities for aquaculture, beef, cotton, dairy, equine, forestry and wildlife, fruits and nuts, goats and sheep, grain crops, ornamentals, peanuts, sweet potatoes, swine, turf, and vegetable producers, and agritourism businesses. The agritourism group is new this year.

Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. at the Magnolia Conference Center adjacent to the Lee County Agri-Center.

The program starts at 9 a.m. and runs until about 2 p.m. Lunch will be provided.

A poster session highlighting university research on a variety of grower interests begins at 8 a.m.

Pre-registration is encouraged. For information or to register, call (662) 566-2201.
