The crop protection industry has done a good job of responding to growers’ needs for new herbicides in recent decades. But the pipeline for new compounds has about dried up, says Iowa State University’s Mike Owens. It could be 10 years before a herbicide with a totally new mode of action hits the market. He says that means they need to protect the herbicides they have from resistance problems.
