Cheminova Inc. has announced the new herbicide active ingredient pethoxamid which the company says can help growers manage herbicide-resistant weeds, including Palmer amaranth, waterhemp, and other key broadleaf and annual grass weeds. 

Pethoxamid is a novel selective chloroacetamide. Classified as a Group 15 herbicide, pethoxamid inhibits the germination of target weeds. It can be applied pre-emergence or post-emergence.

In the U.S. and Canada, major crops slated for its use include canola, corn, cotton, rice, soybean, and sunflower.

According to Cheminova, pethoxamid is being developed as a solo product and as an ingredient to combine with other herbicides.

The company will submit pethoxamid for registration in the U.S. and Canada this year with expected commercialization in late 2017.
