Field crops

Harvesting has passed the halfway mark for small grains. Cotton squaring is 46 percent complete, ahead of last year at 38 percent but behind the five-year average of 57 percent. Cotton conditions range from fair to excellent.

Most alfalfa is in fair to excellent condition. Harvesting is active on over two-thirds of Arizona’s acreage. Range and pasture conditions vary from very poor to excellent depending on the location. Most areas are in poor to fair condition.

Vegetable, fruit, and specialty crops

Central Arizona growers shipped cantaloupes, honeydews, seedless watermelons, miscellaneous melons, and onions. Western Arizona growers shipped cantaloupes, honeydews, seedless watermelon, and miscellaneous melons.

Weather summary

Temperatures were mostly above normal across the state for the week ending June 27, ranging from 8 degrees below normal at Parker to 6 degrees above normal at Douglas and Willcox.

The highest temperature of the week was 113 degrees at Phoenix. The lowest reading at 28 degrees occurred at Grand Canyon.

Precipitation was recorded at 4 of the 22 stations this week. Grand Canyon received .01 inches of precipitation and Safford received .25 inches of precipitation. Three of the 22 weather stations have below normal precipitation to date.
