South Plains landowners seeking farm and ranch estate planning information will have two chances to find it in September.

The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service will conduct two estate planning seminars with similar curriculums on Sept. 10 in Lubbock and Sept. 11 in Littlefield.

The Lubbock County program is set from 6-8 p.m. at the AgriLife Extension office at 916 Main St., Lubbock, and the Lamb County program will run from 6:30-8:30 p.m. in the Lamb County Ag and Community Center, E. 17th Street and Hall Avenue, Littlefield.

The featured speaker for both workshops will be Dr. Wayne Hayenga, professor emeritus and AgriLife Extension economist at College Station.

"Dr. Hayenga has spent his AgriLife Extension career working with farmers, ranchers and family owned firms in financial, business and estate tax planning," said Robert Scott, AgriLife Extension agent in Lubbock County. "He's an excellent communicator who gets his points across in an often entertaining, but easily understood style."

Some of the topics Hayenga will address include:

-The Will: What is needed?; Selection of executor(s); Paying debts and taxes; Share and share alike?

- Miscellaneous Topics: Health Care Power of Attorney; A Living Will.

- Passing on an Active Farm or Ranch: Tips for keeping the business going.

- Management of Various Taxes: Estate, Gift, Generation-Skipping, Income and Social Security Tax.

- How Not to Let My Kid's "Ex" Mess with Me.

- Power of Attorney.

Both workshops are free and open to the public, with Lubbock's sponsored by Ag Texas Farm Credit Services and Capital Farm Credit, and Littlefield's by Harlan Law Offices.

Those planning to attend either workshop should RSVP no later than one day before the respective event so enough resources are available. For Lubbock, call 806-775-1680, and for Littlefield, 806-385-4222, ext. 235.

A "build-your-own" sandwich bar will be available along with water and iced tea at the Littlefield workshop.
