Best-management practices from the farm laborer to the packing house will be just some of the topics discussed at an Asian citrus psyllid meeting in San Bernardino, Calif. on June 10.

The event takes place from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the National Orange Show Events Center, L’Orange Room, 690 S. Arrowhead Ave., San Bernardino.

Controlling the Asian citrus psyllid is important to homeowners and commercial citrus growers because of the fatal tree disease it spreads called Huanglongbing. The pest is already well-established in southern California and has been discovered as far north as Fresno and Tulare counties.

Growers, pest control advisors, farm labor contractors and packinghouse representatives from San Bernardino and Riverside counties are encouraged to attend an informational meeting hosted by the Citrus Pest & Disease Prevention Program and California Department of Food and Agriculture, with support from the local Farm Bureau and California Citrus Mutual.

At the meeting, participants will learn the latest news related to the Asian citrus psyllid and Huanglongbing.

Topics of discussion will include a regulatory review, local psyllid developments, coordinated and area-wide treatments, abandoned groves, a review of the biological control program and best-management practices from the farm laborer to the packing house.
