5 things you need to know this morning

China creates uncertainty in cotton market. Target spot spreading in Southern cotton. Superweeds a growing nightmare. More stripe rust in winter wheat. ID pests with this new mobile app.

Here’s some information to start your day:

• A new mobile app allows soybean farmers to easily identify weed, insect and disease problems in their fields by just grabbing their smartphones.

• More stripe rust has been detected in wheat fields throughout the Delta over the past two weeks. You should scout fields for the disease to determine the extent of the infection in the wheat production area.

• Target spot is by no means a new disease of cotton, but it’s certainly attracting the attention of more producers as it spreads throughout the South.

• China vacuuming up free supplies splits the cotton market into China and the rest-of-the-world, creating great uncertainty.

• Superweeds are a growing nightmare for agriculture. Farmers are trying to avoid a plague of herbicide resistant weeds that threaten to upset management practices of all sorts.
