Vertical tillage from Big G

The new Big G brand Mega-Coulter provides vertical tilling for growers who need good crop residue management. It boasts up to 640 lbs./ft. of cut width to provide plenty of weight for soil penetration and residue cutting. The Mega-Coulter increases the spring planting window by helping wet soils dry faster, promoting early soil warm-up. When no-till conditions are dry, the implement loosens and fluffs soil for better no-till planting.

The Mega-Coulter is available in sizes from 15 to 40 ft. Coulters are spaced 10 in. apart, and the gangs are mounted on heavy-duty, C-arm bearing hangers. Suggested retail price is $30,000. Contact Green Line Inc., Dept. FIN, Box 434, Harper, KS 67058-0434, 620/896-7372, visit

AGCO powers up compact

AGCO announces that its ST55 compact tractor has a more powerful engine and hydraulic system for 2004. The low-vibration, liquid-cooled, 4-cyl. diesel now pumps out 55.3 engine horsepower. The hydraulic system produces a flow rate of 17.3 gpm. Hydrostatic power steering, wet disc brakes and bevel gear front-wheel drive allow the machine to spin around within a 9.8-ft. radius. A 12 forward/12 reverse synchronized shuttle transmission features three creeper speeds under 1 mph. Top speed is 16.8 mph.

An ST55 with R4 industrial tires lists for $22,190. Contact AGCO Corp., Dept. FIN, 4205 River Green Pkwy., Duluth, GA 30096, 770/813-9200, visit or

Farmall returns

Case IH announces that it is putting the Farmall nameplate on a new crop of lawn, garden and compact utility tractors. Fans of classic farm tractors such as the M or Super C will recognize the name, but not much else. The 14 new Farmall models are fully modern machines, sharing many components with compact New Holland tractors such as the Boomer.

Case IH, which initially avoided selling small tractors to focus on large machinery, now hopes the appeal of a classic name will help it gain market share quickly in the lucrative and competitive small tractor market. In the industry, subcompact, compact and utility tractors represent 72% of all tractors sold in North America.

The new D and DX series Farmalls, which range from 18 to 55 engine horsepower, are targeted to the needs of country estate owners, municipalities, contractors and farmers in search of versatile, small tractors for mowing, blowing snow and light loader work. Prices vary by model. Features include either hydrostatic or manual gear transmissions, mechanical front-wheel drive (MFD), high-capacity hydraulics and an available 3-pt. hitch.
