LSU AgCenter offers rice clinics across southwest Louisiana

Rice farmers in southwest Louisiana will have a chance to catch up on the latest techniques and recommendations for the upcoming growing season in a series of four clinics being held by the LSU AgCenter in early January.

All four will start at 7:30 a.m. and conclude with a lunch.

The first one will be on Jan. 9 at the Welsh Firemen's Hut on North Adams Street in Welsh, La. On Jan. 10, the Evangeline Parish session will be held at the Ville Platte Civic Center.

The Acadia Parish clinic will be on Jan. 11 at the LSU AgCenter Extension Office at 157 Cherokee Drive in Crowley, La.

The final clinic will be Jan. 12 in Vermilion Parish at the Kaplan American Legion Hall on American Legion Road.

Several experts from the LSU AgCenter will make presentations on topics that will include fungicides, herbicides, fertilizers and variety selections for rice.

“I would urge everyone who will be planting a rice crop next year to attend,” said Steve Linscombe, LSU AgCenter's regional director for southwestern Louisiana.
