LSU AgCenter agents, specialists honored

The Louisiana County Agricultural Agents Association honored several LSU AgCenter agents and specialists for their service to Louisiana agriculture during its annual conference earlier this month in Oak Grove, La.

The top honors presented during the June 3-6 meeting were Distinguished Service Awards presented to John Chaney, an LSU AgCenter communication agent, and Mike Rome, LSU AgCenter agricultural agent in Madison Parish.

The association’s achievement awards went to Ben Legendre, LSU AgCenter professor and sugarcane specialist at the Sugarcane Research Station in St. Gabriel, La., and Don Reed, LSU AgCenter associate professor and wildlife specialist at the Bob R. Jones Idlewild Research Station in Clinton, La.

In another honor presented at the meeting, LSU AgCenter county agent Eddie Eskew of Jefferson Davis Parish was recognized for winning first place in the communications award program in the newsletter by an individual category.

The award winners also will be recognized during the National Association of County Agricultural Agents conference July 15-19 national conference in Grand Rapids, Mich.

In other action at the state conference, officers for the Louisiana association were elected for 2007-2008. They are Ed Twidwell, an LSU AgCenter agronomy professor and forage specialist in Baton Rouge, president; Miles Brashier, an AgCenter agent in Pointe Coupee Parish, president-elect; Brian Chandler, AgCenter forestry agent in Southeastern Louisiana, vice president; Kurt Guidry, associate professor in the AgCenter’s Department of Agricultural Economics, secretary; and Keith Normand, an AgCenter agent in St. Landry Parish, treasurer. R.L. Frazier, an AgCenter agent in West Carroll Parish is the immediate past president for the group.

Board members elected include: Rick Louque, an LSU AgCenter agent in Assumption Parish; Jimmy Flanagan, an AgCenter agent in St. Mary Parish; Bill Branch, a professor in the AgCenter’s Department of Biological and Agricultural Engineering; and Myrl Sistrunk, an AgCenter agent in West Carroll Parish.
