Despite the increasing amounts of foreign seafood landing in the U.S., the U.S. Food and Drug Administration currently inspects less than 2 percent of the fish products coming into this county.

U.S. catfish producers have long been concerned about the safety of such products and persuaded Congress to transfer inspection of foreign seafood to USDA in the 2008 farm bill. But the Obama administration has yet to implement the language.

Ben Noble, who represents the Catfish Farmers of America in Washington, discussed the situation during an interview at the Delta Council Mid-Year Board Meeting in Stoneville, Miss.
