With both production costs and consumer prices on the rise, there will be plenty of topics on the minds of beef cattle producers who attend the University of Tennessee Institute of Agriculture’s annual Beef & Forage Field Day.

Scheduled for June 9, this year’s event will once again be held at the East Tennessee AgResearch and Education Center near Knoxville.

The morning keynote presentation will be presented by noted Knoxville attorney Anne McKinney. She will address the difficult topic of family planning for farm succession and future generations. Copies of the booklet “What My Family Should Know” will be available to each attendee.

Following the keynote presentation, attendees will be treated to a cattle handling demonstration by RFD-TV host and cattle farmer Todd McCartney. Attendees will then have the opportunity to hear UT experts address production and management issues including herd health practices, use of by-product feeds, and decreasing stress at weaning.

Other topics expected to be of interest include Is Hobby Farming Really a Hobby?; Considerations for Selling Timber; and information regarding the production and management of the UT Angus Herd.

Activities will begin with registration, a trade show, and coffee and biscuits at 7:00 a.m. A youth program will be presented concurrent to the main program, and both programs will conclude with a sponsored lunch at approximately 12:45 p.m.

Todd McCartney will return to the podium for a special presentation luncheon presentation entitled “Good Stewardship is Good Business”.

Those planning to attend this free educational event should pre-register by June 3 with your county UT Extension office or call the East Tennessee AgResearch and Education Center at 865-974-7201 to be assured of a sponsored meal.
