NEW BLOOD: In 15 years, little Ella Eckler, seen here rubbing her lamb alongside dad Kyle Eckler and aunt Gina Pollard, may be able to fill a board position on the Missouri Department of Agriculture sheep merchandising council. Until then, the state is seeking producers a little older who are willing to move the sheep industry forward in the state.

The Missouri director of agriculture will be conducting an election to fill three positions on the Missouri Sheep Merchandising Council Board of Directors. Directors will be elected for Districts 1, 6, and 7.

Any registered sheep producer will be eligible to vote in his or her district. Non-registered producers must register online or at a local Farm Service Agency before Aug. 3 to be eligible to vote in this election.

Ballots will be mailed by the Missouri Department of Agriculture to registered producers on Sept. 4.  Ballots must be returned to the Missouri Department of Agriculture, and be postmarked by Sept. 18, to be valid.

Any qualified producer may be nominated and have his or her name placed on the ballot, provided they present the director of agriculture with a petition signed by 25 sheep producers in their district at least 30 days prior to the election.  Said petitions are available from the Missouri Department of Agriculture by calling 573-751-5633.
