New Mexico State University’s Cooperative Extension Service will host a two-day course on artificial insemination for beef cattle next month in Quay County.

The Quay County AI School for beef producers will take place from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Feb. 26 and 27 at the Tucumcari Convention Center, 1500 W. Historic Route 66.

The course will be taught by Craig Gifford, NMSU beef cattle specialist, and Marcy Ward, NMSU livestock specialist. Gifford and Ward will teach artificial insemination techniques for beef production using the ABS Artificial Insemination handbook. It is not a certified course, and live cattle will not be used during the sessions.

Cost for the course is $75 per person, which includes two meals and the ABS handbook. Payment can be in cash or check when the course begins at the convention center.

Space is limited, and participants must preregister for the course by Feb. 22; those who register late will receive the ABS handbook by mail. To register, call the Quay County Extension Office at 575-461-0562.
