Mississippi State University beef cattle research will be spotlighted in an Oct. 27 field day in Pearl River County.

The White Sand Branch Unit of the Mississippi Agricultural and Forestry Experiment Station will host the field day. Beef cattle producers are invited to attend the half-day event.

Research highlights will include value-added gin trash and distiller’s solubles from ethanol production used as cattle feed. Speakers also will address using soybeans as a summer crop prior to ryegrass establishment and using nitrogen on summer pastures. Additional topics include implant management of beef calves, protein supplements for calves fed ryegrass and metabolic and physiological changes in abruptly-weaned beef cattle.

Visitors can examine the branch station’s clover demonstration plots. Speakers will be MSU research and Extension Service personnel.

There is no fee to attend, and registration begins at 9 a.m. The program runs from 9:30 a.m. through a provided lunch. The White Sand Branch Unit is about 10 miles west of Poplarville, Miss., on Highway 26 in Pearl River County.
