The LSU AgCenter Iberia Research Station will hold its Acadiana Beef Cattle Producers Field Day on March 9.

Registration begins at 8 a.m., and the program starts at 8:30 a.m. and continues the rest of the morning with a lunch.

“We have planned this field day so that even the more experienced producers can learn something about managing their herds more efficiently,” said Guillermo Scaglia, ruminant nutritionist at the Iberia Station.

AgCenter experts will make presentations on calf management through weaning, deworming principles, starting pastures and hay fields, stocking rates and supplementation for heifers grazing on ryegrass, and cow-calf systems.

Different methods of handling calves will be demonstrated including castration, vaccination and tagging.

The Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry will provide information on a cattle identification system.

AgCenter presenters will include livestock specialist Karl Harborth, veterinarian Christine Navarre, forage specialist Ed Twidwell and Scaglia.

Sponsoring the event with the LSU AgCenter are the Louisiana Forage and Grassland Council and the Louisiana Cattleman’s Association.

The Iberia Research Station is at 603 LSU Bridge Road, Jeanerette, La.
