Two important names in the livestock industry were inducted into the Indiana Livestock Breeders Hall of Fame during ceremonies at the Indiana State Fair earlier in August. They include Ted Hunt of Battle Ground and Jim and Lynn Carey of Sheridan.

Hunt and his family raise Herefords in Tippecanoe County. Many Purdue ag students remember his father, who taught chemistry at Purdue for decades.

The Careys are noted for their efforts in the horse industry. They raise Belgian horses and participate in major shows across the country.

The hall of fame started in the 1930s as a project of the Indiana Livestock Breeders Association. The purpose was to recognize people involved in animal science who made significant contributions to the livestock industry in the state. Today, representatives of the beef, dairy, horse and swine industries select honorees under the name of the Indiana Livestock Breeders Hall of Fame Committee.
