‘GT’ Thompson inducted into Pennsylvania Livestock Hall of Fame

The award is the highest honor that the Pennsylvania livestock industry can bestow.

Rep. Glenn "GT" Thompson, R-Pa., is this year's inductee into the Pennsylvania Livestock Hall of Fame.

The ceremony was held at the Keystone International Livestock Exposition at the Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex and Expo Center.

The Pennsylvania Livestock Hall of Fame honors excellence in animal agriculture and leaders in local, state, national and international endeavors. According to the Pennsylvania Livestock Association, it is "the highest honor that the livestock industry of Pennsylvania can bestow on an individual." Thompson's portrait will hang with those of other hall of fame inductees at the entrance to the New Holland Large Arena concourse, in the walkway that connects the old and new sections of the complex.

A lifelong resident of Howard Township, Centre County, Pa., Thompson represents Pennsylvania's 5th District in the House of Representatives. He is married to Penny, his wife of 30 years.

Thompson is a 40-year veteran of the Juniata Valley Boy Scout Council and has served as scoutmaster, council executive board member and council president. In 2012, Thompson received the National Distinguished Eagle Scout Award, of which only 2,000 have been presented since 1969.

As a member of the House's agriculture, natural resources, and education and workforce committees, Thompson brings his expertise and knowledge to the issues facing farmers, rural businesses and communities.

Previously, Thompson served three terms as chairman of the House Agriculture Subcommittee on Conservation and Forestry, and he currently serves as the vice chairman of the agriculture committee and chairman of the subcommittee on nutrition.

Currently, Thompson is working on legislation to develop support for an improved margin protection program for the dairy industry. He is also working on the next reauthorization of the farm bill.
