Are you paying too much for your pasture land? Could the landowner fairly ask for more? If it’s time to renegotiate, here are average land leases for several regions in four Southeastern states to get the conversation started on fair footing.

Doug Mayo, University of Florida Extension director in Jackson County, penned an excellent and informative article on the subject recently, referencing data for pasture rental rates in Florida, Georgia, Alabama and South Carolina.

“It can be pretty challenging to determine what is a fair price for both parties," Mayo said. "Knowing the local, going rate can be challenging, especially if this is not something you do routinely.  There are a few resources available to use as guides to at least get these conversations started off right with unbiased data that can really ease the initial tension.”
