Eighty acres of farmland in Minnehaha County, east of Dell Rapids, S.D., donated to the South Dakota Community Foundation, sold at an auction in May for $7,775 per acre. The buyer was able to take immediate possession of the land and begin farming it this year. About 72 acres is cropland. Portions not being cultivated had been in the Conservation Reserve Program. The land has a .799 county productivity rating and an 85.3 Surety Agridata rating. The 2,784-acre Fort Pierre Ranch in Stanley County, S.D., sold at auction in May for an approximately $791 per acre. The property consisted of 830 of cropland and 1,954 acres of grassland. The seller ran a cow-calf operation and grew corn, wheat, grain sorghum and sunflowers. Ranch improvements included stock dams, rural water and buffalo fencing.
