The 10th annual University of Missouri Center for Agroforestry Symposium focuses on entrepreneurship and research.

The event will be Jan. 30-31, 2019, at the Bond Life Sciences Center on the MU campus, Columbia, Mo.

The event kicks off with a welcome from MU Vice Chancellor for Research, Graduate Studies and Economic Development Mark McIntosh. Rodolphe Barrangou of North Carolina State University speaks on “The CRISPR Craze: Entrepreneurship Lessons From a Disruptive Technology.”

Michael Gold, interim director of the MU Center for Agroforestry, and Christopher Daubert, dean of the MU College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources, introduce the Wednesday morning session. Kelly Sexton of the University of Michigan talks about “Universities as Drivers of Economic Growth: The Transformative Power of Research and Technology Commercialization.” University of Pretoria plant scientist Namrita Lall shares information on “Medicinal Plants for a Graceful Skin: Bioprospecting and Natural Products Development.”

MU associate research professor Chung-Ho Lin gives highlights of MU’s “Research Innovations and Entrepreneurial Development.” Katie Thompson, co-founder of Elemental Enzymes, talks about her company. Jaya Ghosh, assistant program director of MU’s Coulter Translational Partnership Program, leads a panel discussion on “Fostering Translation of Research and Entrepreneurship at MU.”

“The Role of an Incubator in Entrepreneurial Development” will be the topic of a presentation by Bill Turpin, CEO of the Missouri Innovation Center and MU interim associate vice chancellor for economic development. Sam Bish, senior licensing and business development associate at MU, moderates a discussion on “Building Economic Impact From University Research Through Effective Industry Partnership.”
