Jim McCrory, crop consultant

JIM MCCRORY, a veteran crop consultant and champion bow hunter, died March 23 at his home in Greenwood, Miss.

McCrory was a member of the Mississippi Agricultural Consultants Association, having joined the organization shortly after becoming an independent crop consultant in 1981. Prior to that, he worked 16 years in the chemical division of Staplcotn.

“A number of us looked up to Mr. Jim for his knowledge and experience in helping clients grow cotton,” said Bruce Pittman, a fellow consultant from Greenwood.

A native of Goodman, McCrory earned a bachelor's degree in agronomy and a master's degree in plant pathology, weed science and entomology, both from Mississippi State University.

His wife, Kaye Boutwell McCrory of Greenwood; a daughter, Shaye M. Rawson of Winona, Miss.; a son, Shannon McCrory of Greenwood; his mother, Era Dell McCrory of Kosciusko, Miss.; a brother, Robert Louis McCrory of Houston, Miss.; and four grandchildren survive him.

The Mississippi Agricultural Consultants Association is overseeing the McCrory Medical Fund. Tax-deductible donations that will be passed on to the McCrory family to help pay for a substantial amount of uncovered medical expenses that he incurred during treatment for his illness.
