ACRE Signup Low

The final signup numbers for the first year of the Average Crop Revenue Election (ACRE) program show that less than one out of every 10 farmers receiving federal crop supports elected to participate in the optional revenue protection plan.

According to USDA data, 128,620 farms, or less than 8% of all farms enrolled in federal crop subsidy programs, were signed up for ACRE. Those farms enrolled 32.5 million acres in ACRE, roughly 13% of the U.S. farmland eligible for crop supports.

Illinois producers put the largest amount of land into ACRE, followed by Nebraska, Iowa and South Dakota. Of the major Corn Belt states, ACRE participation was highest in Nebraska with 19.6% of its farmers signing up.
