“A majority of our growing area is a very productive soil with good organic matter, but as yields have increased, fertility has gone down,” says Lance Loveless, sales manager at Crop Production Services in Delphi, Indiana. “We don’t get the nutrients we need from the air anymore, so we’re addressing the needs of our soil with different MicroEssentials products.”

Not only does each formula allow for a variety of nutrient releases, the products also evenly distribute nutrients in the soil. Now we’re putting it on almost all of our soils because there’s not the sulfur availability that there used to be. Each distinct formula allows for a different variation of each nutrient to be available to the crops over the growing season. The three MicroEssentials formulas, SZ^™ (12-40-0-10S-1Zn), S15™ (13-33-0-15S) and S10™ (12-40-0-10S), supply the nutrients needed for a variety of crops and soil conditions.

With improved air quality standards, sulfur emissions have been greatly reduced, which has decreased the amount of sulfur that is deposited by rainfall. This creates the need to have more readily available sulfur in our soils. MicroEssentials supplies the soil with two forms of sulfur: sulfate sulfur and elemental sulfur. Sulfate sulfur provides plants with the sulfur they need at the beginning of the season, whereas elemental sulfur oxidizes throughout the growing season to provide a season-long supply of sulfur, from planting to maturity.
