Attendees at this year's Husker Harvest Days near Grand Island in Hall County can expect some major changes in traffic flow leading to the exhibition grounds.

"Husker Harvest Days is an incredibly popular event," says Troop C Commander, Captain Chris Kolb. "By instituting a new traffic plan we hope to avoid delays and back-ups associated with an increase in vehicle traffic on the main road headed to the event site."

The new plan calls for Husker Highway to become a one-way road, allowing for westbound traffic only beginning at 8 a.m., each morning of the show, which runs Tuesday-through-Thursday, Sept. 14, 15, & 16, 2010.

The transition to a one-way road will take place at the intersection of Husker Highway and Alda Road. Troopers will be in place to direct event traffic in both lanes at this location. County roads west of Alda Road intersecting Husker Highway will be closed to prevent cross traffic onto the highway during the time of one-way travel.

The new traffic pattern will also be used to expedite the flow of traffic leaving the show site in the afternoon. Beginning at 3 pm, each day of the show, Husker Highway will become a one-way road allowing for eastbound travel only from the show site to the Alda Road intersection.

During the hours of noon and 3 pm Husker Highway will transition back to a normal two-way traffic flow.

Message boards will be in place reminding motorists of the changes. Those heading to and from the event site should remain alert for law enforcement personnel directing traffic.  Drivers are asked to maintain adequate following distances to allow themselves plenty of time to react to changing conditions.

Captain Kolb says, "We appreciate everyone's help in advance. If folks come prepared and pay attention, we should be able to have motorists in and out of the event site in a safe, timely manner."

Traffic enforcement and assistance will be provided by the Nebraska State Patrol, Nebraska Department of Roads, Hall County Roads Department, the Hall County Sheriff's Office, Hall County Sheriff's Possess and the Husker Harvest Days staff.
