Amid the hustle of Husker Harvest Days lies an opportunity to compete. The University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s Testing Ag Performance Solutions competition returns once again to test visitors’ agricultural knowledge.
Last year, the TAPS competition hosted by the Nebraska Extension drew more than 400 competitors of all ages.
“It provides learning outside of the classroom, offering an opportunity to see how you stack up across the state,” says Krystle Rhoades, TAPS program coordinator.
Participants can enter individually or as teams of up to four members. The competition showcases cutting-edge technology and essential skills crucial for success in the field.
This year’s TAPS challenges will encompass diverse topics:
cover crop identification
imagery interpretation
drone regulations
insect identification
irrigation
herbicide injury
soil health
As TAPS returns for its third year, Rhoades says she is enthusiastic about seeing returning participants engaging in friendly competition.
While popular among high school students, teams in the nonstudent divisions often are made up of children, parents and grandparents, making it a multigenerational family affair.
“It is a great opportunity for family bonding,” Rhoades says, “and for older generations to share information with future generations.”
Competitors have more than just bragging rights at stake.
Each day of the competition will feature prizes for both student and nonstudent divisions:
First place — $250 gift card
Second place — $150 gift card
Third place — $100 gift card
Competitors can stop by Lot 942 in the southwest quadrant anytime during Husker Harvest Days to test their agricultural knowledge and learn new information from the challenge.
