Amid the sea of high-tech agriculture equipment at Husker Harvest Days, an unexpected presence stands out: the Nebraska National Guard.
Returning to the event, the guard is not only showcasing its latest equipment but also offering visitors a glimpse into tactical training techniques.
Guardsmen will conduct a tactical mission demonstration Sept. 11, with soldiers simulating simple battle drills as they pursue an “enemy” in the crowd. Visitors can witness firsthand military training and how a potential real-life battlefield situation unfolds.
Stationed near the southwest entrance of Husker Harvest Days, the Nebraska National Guard also will have a display of military vehicles, including the UH72 Lakota helicopter, M-ATV, firetruck and other weaponry.
Advancements in military tech
The guard invites attendees to explore the latest technological advancements.
This includes the tactical vehicle M-ATV — which, compared with its predecessor the HMMWV or Humvee, provides troops safety in battle. The M-ATV has air suspension, allowing it to easily move over obstacles and better withstand improvised explosive device blasts in the heat of battle.
The guard also features military vehicles used in medevac operations and other emergency operations on military bases across the country.
Mission and community engagement
Since its establishment in 1864, the Nebraska National Guard has been dedicated to training and equipping guardsmen to protect lives and properties, ensuring peace and public safety.
The Nebraska National Guard offers opportunities for young men and women to benefit from participation in the U.S. Army Guard.
The guard not only prepares soldiers for national defense but also actively engages in community service, offering unique opportunities for personal and professional growth.
