Homeland Security Study Launched

Just how vulnerable is agriculture to terrorist attacks or to an accidental release of biological agents? And, who would you turn to for advice if you suspect a crop biosecurity threat?

Most experts agree that delayed diagnosis increases the ultimate cost in lost production and potential exports of U.S. crops. That could leave agriculture more susceptible to plant biosecurity problems.

With a USDA grant, the Extension Disaster Education Network (EDEN) will conduct a homeland-security, educational needs assessment of county-based educators, farmers and consumers. When completed, EDEN will identify and develop educational resources to deliver through the county extension system nationwide.
