Soybean harvest got underway on the Grills farm in Dyer County,Ten., in mid-September.
It’s report card time in the Mid-South.
The crops have been planted, nurtured through the season and protected to the best of farmers’ abilities. Now it’s time to get their grades.
We’ve been looking at cotton, soybean, corn and rice fields across the Mid-South in recent weeks and, based on a few roadside estimates, augmented by a few up close and personal observations and assessments from farmers, combines and cotton pickers will gather some fairly good yields.
As is the case every year, farmers will have hits and misses, bin busters and just busts, dependent mostly on rain—not enough or too much.
We’re hoping for more bin busters than disappointing yields. Here are a few photos of ready-to-harvest and harvest in progress fields from recent trips into farm country.
