Corn harvest

So far, 11% of the corn crop has been harvested across the United States. That’s down 6% from the four-year average of 17%.

North Carolina leads the nation with 77% complete. Texas farmers report 68% and Tennessee shows 59% finished. In the Midwest, Illinois is reporting 11% and Indiana is 10% done.

Iowa and Ohio are showing 3% completed and Minnesota states 2%. Wisconsin farmers haven’t started yet.

Soybean harvest

Also behind is soybean harvest. The USDA report shows 10% is complete compared to the four-year average of 12%. The states showing the biggest delays are Michigan and South Dakota with only 4% complete and Wisconsin with 2%.

Corn dented

The report shows 93% of the corn crop is dented, down 2% from the four-year average of 95%. Three states are behind the average: Wisconsin only 80% dented while Pennsylvania and Michigan producers report 84%.

Corn maturity

Crop watchers say 51% of the corn is mature, down 13% from the four year average of 64%. Leading states include Illinois with 57%; Indiana reports 54%; Iowa with 52% and Pennsylvania shows 51% mature.

However, there are several states struggling to see their crop mature. They include Wisconsin with 23%; North Dakota (30%); Colorado (31%); Minnesota (33%); Michigan (37%) and Ohio (39%).

Corn condition

The corn condition fell a point from last week. The latest report shows 47% in good condition, 14% in excellent and 26% in fair condition. Last week, 48% was in good condition, 13% in excellent and 26% in fair condition.

Dropping leaves

This measurement is spot on with the four-year average. The report shows 63% of the soybean crop is dropping leaves, same as the four year average.

Three states are behind their average: Missouri (35%); North Dakota (37%) and Wisconsin (46%).

Soybean condition

The soybean condition gained a point in this week’s report.  According to the USDA, 49% is in good condition; 11% in excellent and 29% in fair. Last week, the report showed 48% in good; 11% in fair and 29% in excellent condition.
