The crop progress report didn't have any big surprises today.

The soybean harvest is running ahead of the corn harvest. That’s what the USDA Crop Progress report had to say.

Overall, 58 percent of the soybean harvest is complete. Only 39 percent of the corn harvest is complete.

In the 10 Midwest states, Minnesota farmers report having 83 percent of the soybean crop harvested and in Missouri leads the way with 48 percent of the corn crop harvested this week.

When it comes to the soybean harvest Nebraska is not far behind with 78 percent and Iowa with 75 percent. Illinois farmers say they have 52 percent of the crop off the fields followed by Indiana (49); Ohio (45); Wisconsin (42); Michigan (39); Kansas (37) and Missouri is running at 20 percent harvested.

In the corn fields, Illinois farmers say 42 percent of the crop has been taken off the field and Iowa producers say 40 percent is gone. Next is Indiana and Nebraska (32); Minnesota with 31 percent; followed by Pennsylvania at 22 percent complete. Following behind is Michigan (15); Wisconsin and Ohio (14).

Producers report 13 percent of the soybean crops remain in excellent condition and 46 percent in good condition. The crop progress report shows 91 percent of the soybean crop has dropped the leaves, that’s 2 percent higher than the 4-year average.

In the corn fields, 15 percent of the crop is in excellent condition and 45 percent of the crop still in the fields is in good condition. The corn fields are running along with the 4-year average.
