Corn harvest

Last week, producers and crop watchers reported the corn harvest was over 83% complete. This week, they can definitely say the end is near with 90% complete. However, that’s down 5% from the four year national average.

Two states report all of the corn has been harvested: Tennessee and North Carolina. While eight states report they are over the 90% mark including: Kansas (96%); Illinois and Missouri (95%); Kentucky (94%); Nebraska (93%); South Dakota and Iowa stand at 92%; and Minnesota reports 90% is completed.

However, four states in all have not hit the 80% mark yet this harvest. Ohio producers say only 79% is off; Pennsylvania stands at 78% and Michigan is at 76%.

Wisconsin which has struggled with harvest this year is still in last place with 69%.

Soybean harvest

Producers say 96% of the soybeans are off the fields—that’s down 1% from the four year average. However, several states report they are finished with the soybean harvest including Illinois; Louisiana, Minnesota, Mississippi; Nebraska and South Dakota.

Many states are not far behind and are reporting being over the 90% mark including Arkansas (99%); Iowa (98%); Ohio (95%); Wisconsin and Kansas (94%); and both Michigan and Missouri report 91% completion.

Kentucky appears to be the state with the most soybeans left in field with only 78% harvested.
