The Governor’s Cup competition included entries from 43 wineries across Pennsylvania.

Two wineries from North East and another in Spring Mills came out on top in the Governor’s Cup wine competition at this year’s Pennsylvania Farm Show.

South Shore Wine Co. and Heritage Wine Cellars from North East, and Seven Mountains Wine Cellars in Spring Mills were each awarded the Governor’s Cup. South Shore Wine Co. won Best in Show Dry Grape Wine for its Gruner Veltliner (2017). Gruner Veltliner is a white grape variety that is like a sauvignon blanc with grassy, green bean or dill flavors, and hints of tropical fruits.

Heritage Wine Cellars won Best in Show Fruit Wine for its Blackberry. Seven Mountains Wine Cellars received a Governor’s Cup for Best in Show Dessert Wine, Ice (2017).

OFF THE VINE: Entries from 43 wineries competed for the Governor’s Cup at the Pennsylvania Farm Show.

Wines submitted to the competition must be made of 75% Pennsylvania fruit. This year’s competition included entries from 43 wineries in Pennsylvania.

Best American: Flickerwood Wine Cellars, Kane, with Grand View White Niagara, 2016.

Best Hybrid: Arrowhead Wine Cellars, North East, with Rosso, 2017.

Best Sparkling: Pinnacle Ridge, Kutztown, with Blanc de Blanc, 2017.
