As Southern corn growers continue to push yields higher, how important are fungicides in protecting corn yields? Are they worth the cost this year? Research shows a timely, well-chosen fungicide can keep corn diseases from chewing up profits.

“Corn growers recognize that diseases -- especially southern corn rust, northern corn leaf blight and grey leaf spot -- are important … In 2014, well-timed fungicide applications improved yields by 70 to 80 bushels per acre in some research trials,” says Bob Kemerait, University of Georgia Extension plant pathologist.
