June 1 is deadline to certify conservation compliance

Farmers have until June 1, 2015, to file a Highly Erodible Land Conservation and Wetland Conservation Certification form.

Farmers have until June 1, 2015, to file a Highly Erodible Land Conservation and Wetland Conservation Certification form (AD-1026) with their local USDA Service Center.

Producers must file the form to remain eligible, or to become eligible for crop insurance premium support, according to 2014 farm bill requirements.

Many farmers will have a certification on file but farmers who only participate in the federal crop insurance program and not in other USDA programs—such as marketing assistance loans, farm storage facility loans and disaster assistance—must file to receive insurance premium support.

"USDA is making every effort possible to get the word out about this new Farm Bill provision," said Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack.

The deadline cannot be waived or extended and a form must be filed by June 1.
