Helping Africans feed themselves, Part 1

It’s estimated that Africa currently has 300 million people living on the equivalent of less than $1 a day. Many of those often go hungry or enjoy only one meal per day. Agricultural economists like Dr. Akin Adesina are working to make African farmers more productive and better able to feed their people. For his efforts, Adesina was named the winner of the 2010 Borlaug CAST Communication Award, which was presented at this year’s World Food Prize ceremonies in Des Moines, Iowa. In this interview, Adesina talks about what’s needed to help farmers grow more food.
