Farmers should be gathering their production records, checking with insurance representatives for yield histories, using decision tools to evaluate options in the new farm bill programs and making appointments to sign up for these programs.
Producers have until Feb. 27 to make decisions on base acreage reallocation or to update yield histories. They have until March 31 to sign up for either ARC or PLC. Programs have changed and Texas AgriLife Extension eocnomist Joe Outlaw urges farmers to evaluate each option carefully for each crop they plan to produce. "This is not a coffee shop farm bill," he says.
